Trump urges Iran to accept nuclear deal, warns of further action

US President Donald Trump has called on Iran to accept a nuclear agreement, stating that Washington seeks a deal that is both effective and lasting.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said his administration had taken strong action against Iran and would continue to do so if necessary.

“They should sign the deal, it’s a good deal,” Trump said, adding that the proposal would prevent Iran from ever having a nuclear weapon.

He emphasized that the United States was looking for a serious agreement.

“We want a deal that’s meaningful, we want a deal that works,” he said.

Trump also claimed that the two sides had come close to reaching an agreement but accused Iranian leaders of delaying the process.

“We’ll see what happens, but we hit them hard yesterday and we’re going to hit them again hard today,” he said.

“We were really close to the deal but they keep tapping us along, they keep playing us for suckers.”
