President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the two pilots aboard a U.S. military helicopter that went down near the Strait of Hormuz were uninjured.
The New York Times reported that it was not yet clear whether the Apache helicopter was shot down, suffered a mechanical failure, or encountered another issue, citing two people briefed on the incident.
“The pilots are fine, yeah. Nobody injured,” Trump told reporters before leaving New York after attending an NBA finals game.
“We are going to issue a report on that tomorrow,” he added, without commenting on the cause of the incident.
Trump also said on Tuesday that negotiators were in the “final throes” of talks for a peace deal in the Middle East, following Iran and Israel’s cessation of fresh hostilities that had threatened to reignite the months‑long conflict.
