Nigerian forces from the 3rd Battalion (Mechanised) of the 24th Task Force Brigade repelled an assault by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) militants on a military installation in Ngala Local Government Area, Borno State.

The incident was reported in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter‑insurgency and security specialist in the Lake Chad region.

Makama, citing security sources, said the attack took place on June 12. Insurgents launched coordinated attacks on the troops’ position from the Wurge, Manawaji and Kinuba axes.

According to Makama, the Nigerian soldiers responded with sustained fire, reinforced by additional troops from battalion headquarters and supported by mortar and artillery fire, which forced the attackers to withdraw.

After the failed assault, troops and auxiliary forces conducted a follow‑up operation along the insurgents’ withdrawal route toward Wurge at about 5:45 a.m. During the operation, security personnel recovered three unexploded RPG‑7 high‑explosive ordnances and two torchlights abandoned by the fleeing militants.

Sources reported that a main battle tank suffered technical faults after the engagement, and one soldier was injured by fragments from an RPG explosion. The wounded soldier was evacuated to the 3rd Battalion Regimental Aid Post for treatment.

Military authorities said clearance and exploitation operations are continuing in the area to prevent the regrouping of terrorist elements. They reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing counter‑terrorism operations across the North‑East.
