Transfer: Julian Alvarez’s preferred club to join from Atletico Madrid revealed

Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez has indicated that he is looking to join Barcelona rather than Arsenal during this summer transfer window.

Marca reports that Alvarez declined an improved contract offer from Atletico and has told the club he wants to move to a “more ambitious project.”

The Argentine international’s preferred destination is Barcelona, but a transfer is unlikely because Atletico are demanding a €150 million fee.

Alvarez completed his second season with Diego Simeone’s side after arriving from Manchester City two years ago.

He has been linked with Arsenal this summer, and former Arsenal player Paul Merson has publicly urged the Premier League club to sign him.

Merson also suggested that Arsenal should add a new midfielder to complement Mikel Arteta’s squad.
