Tobi Amusan Wins Diamond League, Issues Strong Warning to C'Wealth Games

World record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, delivered a sensational performance, clocking 12.27 seconds to win the event at the Paris Diamond League.

With a legal tailwind of +0.7 m/s, the Nigerian hurdler—affectionately known as Tobi Express—leapt out of her lane four blocks early, recording a reaction time of 0.135 seconds and then dominated the entire field.

American Grace Stark finished second in 12.38 seconds, followed by compatriot Alaysha Johnson in 12.39 seconds. Dutch athlete Visser improved on her heat time to finish fourth with a season best of 12.41 seconds.

According to the National Sports Commission (NSC), Amusan’s victory marks another milestone in her resurgence this season. The reigning Commonwealth champion is building momentum ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The win also earned Amusan the maximum 21 Diamond League qualification points, moving her to the top of the qualification rankings after four of the eight qualifying meetings and strengthening her bid to reach the Diamond League Final.

Last week, Tobi Amusan was named as one of Nigeria’s representatives to the 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2.

She is expected to defend her 100mH title, which she won in Gold Coast, Australia, and Birmingham, UK, in 2018 and 2022 respectively.
