Deji Elumoye in Abuja
President Bola Tinubu expressed his congratulations to Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji following the governor’s decisive win in Saturday’s Ekiti State gubernatorial election. In a statement released on Sunday by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the people of Ekiti for conducting a peaceful and orderly election and for placing their confidence in Governor Oyebanji. He also commended the law‑enforcement agencies for maintaining order during the campaign.
President Tinubu urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to continue investing in peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections as the nation moves toward the Osun governorship contest in August 2026 and the general election the following year.
He noted that Governor Oyebanji’s overwhelming victory marks the first time a governor in Ekiti State has secured a back‑to‑back term. The President highlighted the governor’s first term achievements, which included significant progress in infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare, and rural development under the BAO agenda.
According to Tinubu, the renewed mandate represents a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability, and people‑centred governance. He urged Governor Oyebanji to remain magnanimous in his victory and to bring all Ekiti residents along as he builds on his accomplishments over the next four years.
The President also praised all candidates who contested the election alongside the governor for exercising their democratic rights, and called on the public to rally around Oyebanji in the effort to elevate Ekiti to a higher level of governance.
Reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment, Tinubu said the national administration will partner with the Ekiti State Government to deliver additional dividends of democracy and accelerate the Renewed Hope Agenda across Nigeria. He concluded by praying for God’s wisdom, strength, and good health for Governor Oyebanji as he continues to serve the people of Ekiti State.
