Nigeria and China have stepped up their collaboration in key economic sectors, such as electricity, infrastructure and industrial development, after a high‑level meeting between Joseph Tegbe, Director General of the Nigeria‑China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), and H.E. Yu Dunhai, China’s Ambassador to Nigeria.

The meeting, held in Abuja, aimed to broaden cooperation under the Nigeria‑China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework and to pinpoint concrete projects that could accelerate Nigeria’s economic transformation and modernization agenda.

Ambassador Yu welcomed Tegbe to his new role and praised his efforts in strengthening bilateral ties. He reiterated China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development goals and pledged to continue working on the agreements reached at the recent Forum on China‑Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing.

He stressed that deepening collaboration in power generation, electricity infrastructure and other development projects is essential for reinforcing the comprehensive strategic partnership and delivering tangible benefits to citizens of both countries.

Ambassador Yu also affirmed China’s willingness to partner closely with Nigeria on strategic projects that promote economic growth, industrialization and sustainable development.

In response, Tegbe described China as one of Nigeria’s most important development partners and reiterated the federal government’s dedication to deepening relations with Beijing across critical sectors.

He thanked China for its long‑standing support for Nigeria’s socio‑economic development and pledged to strengthen engagement with the Chinese Embassy and relevant Chinese institutions to foster practical investments and partnerships.

Tegbe highlighted power infrastructure, manufacturing and modern agriculture as priority areas where expanded cooperation could unlock economic opportunities, create jobs and raise living standards.

He added that stronger Nigeria‑China ties would not only help Nigeria achieve its development objectives but also contribute to broader efforts to advance modernization and sustainable development across Africa.

The meeting comes as the Nigerian government intensifies efforts to attract strategic investments and partnerships to address infrastructure deficits, increase electricity supply and accelerate industrial growth as part of its wider economic reform programme.

Analysts view China as a key partner in Nigeria’s infrastructure and development drive, noting the extensive cooperation between the two countries in transportation, energy, telecommunications and industrial projects over the years.
