Taiwo Awoniyi: Super Eagles striker speaks about his future at Nottingham Forest

Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has clarified his future at the City Ground amid reports of interest from other clubs, Afrik Foot reports.

The 28‑year‑old is approaching the final year of his contract with the two‑time UEFA Champions League winners. With no renewal talks in sight, Forest may look to sell Awoniyi to avoid losing him on a free transfer next season.

After recently reaching the 100‑game milestone with the Reds, Awoniyi expressed a desire to stay at the City Ground.

Taiwo Awoniyi keen on Nottingham Forest stay

The former Union Berlin striker fell down the pecking order at the City Ground after Vitor Pereira’s arrival, becoming third choice behind Chris Wood and Igor Jesus.

Awoniyi said that Forest feels like home for him and his family and that he is not ready to leave at this stage of his career.

“Four years in the Premier League has been a dream for the club and me,” Awoniyi told SportsBoom.

“The club has shown faith in me when I was down, so we will see what happens next,” the former Mainz 05 striker continued.

“My family and I are settled here in Nottingham, a great city. Next season, we will be better.”

“At the end, it was an amazing season for us.”

“Looking at how far we went in the Europa League and looking at how we went about the season.”

“Many people thought we might be relegated, but we turned the negativity around. It was a good season for the club, the players and everyone,” the Nigerian concluded.

Awoniyi also confirmed that he was scheduled to play in the 2026 Unity Cup but opted out for personal reasons.
