Swiss beat Bosnia with a winning goal from substitute Manzambi.

Substitute Johan Manzambi netted twice as Switzerland defeated Bosnia‑Herzegovina 4‑1, a score that came in a frantic final 20 minutes and secured a place in the World Cup last 32.

Manzambi’s first goal arrived just 2 minutes 46 seconds after he entered the match, when he struck a first‑time volley past Bosnia goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj in the 74th minute. It was only his fourth touch on the ball.

With Bosnia reduced to 10 men after Tarik Muharemovic received a straight red card for bringing down Breel Embolo while he was on a clear goal‑scoring run, Ruben Vargas doubled Switzerland’s lead with a curling finish into the bottom corner.

In the 90th minute, Vargas supplied a pass that set up Manzambi for his second goal from close range. Later in injury time, Granit Xhaka converted a penalty after Djibril Sow was tripped by Amar Memic.

Ermin Mahmic added a late consolation for Bosnia with a spectacular volley from a corner.

“It’s probably the best moment of my career so far,” Manzambi said after the game. “We knew why we didn’t start well and we had to be patient but we’re a good team and I think we showed that.”

Until Manzambi’s opener, Switzerland had struggled with their own lackluster finishing and Bosnia’s stubborn defence.

In the early stages, Switzerland exploited space on the left wing created by Bosnia’s narrow shape out of possession. Dan Ndoye fired into the side‑netting before missing a low cross with an attempted flick.

Ndoye’s spectacular bicycle kick was tipped over the bar early in the second half, after which he made way for Manzambi.

Bosnia pushed again and looked the stronger side, but lost momentum at the hydration break midway through the second half.

Veteran striker Edin Dzeko made his first appearance in his second World Cup and was Bosnia’s main threat, but he failed to score and was replaced at the 64th minute.

Switzerland top Group B with four points, while Bosnia sit at the bottom with one point and a goal difference of minus three. If Canada also win their clash with Qatar, they will finish on the same four points as the Swiss.
