Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente expressed his support for Marc Cucurella as the defender departs Chelsea to join Real Madrid.
On Monday, Real Madrid confirmed that the La Liga club had reached an agreement with Chelsea for Cucurella’s transfer.
The defender will sign a contract with the Los Blancos that keeps him at the Santiago Bernabéu until 30 June 2032.
Speaking to reporters before Spain’s World Cup opener against Cape Verde on Monday evening, de la Fuente said the move was good news for both Cucurella and the national team.
“We celebrate if it’s good news for Cucu,” he said. “And if something else comes up during the tournament with another team‑mate and it’s good news for him, then we celebrate that, too.”
“What is good for one of my players is good for the team as a whole. If he’s happy and content then, I am happy and content. Anything I see that brings my players happiness makes me as happy as they are.”
