Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra State Governor Godwin Obaseki, reiterated the state government’s pledge to safeguard the dignity, rights and welfare of its elderly population.

Speaking on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, she affirmed that the administration will continue to stand in solidarity with senior citizens, whom she described as custodians of wisdom, culture and societal values.

She emphasized that older persons deserve to age with respect, care and security, and must be protected from neglect, discrimination, exploitation or any form of abuse.

“Our elderly men and women deserve to age with respect, care, and security. We should ensure that they are free from neglect, discrimination, exploitation, or any form of abuse,” she said.

Mrs. Soludo urged families, communities and institutions to create environments where older people feel valued, heard and protected.

She added that the way society treats its elders reflects its moral strength, calling for collective action to promote kindness, inclusion and support for senior citizens.

“Let us use this day as a reminder that how we treat our elders reflects the strength of our humanity,” she said.

She further appealed for sustained efforts to ensure that senior citizens enjoy dignity and a better quality of life.
