Silva Signs Two-Year Contract with Real Madrid After Leaving Manchester City

Real Madrid have signed former Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva on a free transfer.

Silva has agreed a two‑year contract with the Spanish club, which has already added Chelsea left‑back Marc Cucurella for £51.8 million and extended the contract of centre‑back Antonio Rüdiger after the return of head coach José Mourinho.

The 31‑year‑old’s contract with City expired at the end of last season, ending his trophy‑laden nine‑year spell at the club.

In a statement on Wednesday, Real Madrid announced: “Real Madrid C.F. and Bernardo Silva have reached an agreement for him to become a Real Madrid player for the next two seasons, until June 30 2028.”

LaLiga champions Barcelona and Atlético Madrid also made offers for Silva, but he chose to join Real Madrid.

Silva scored 76 goals in 460 appearances for City after joining from Monaco in 2017.

He played a key role in winning six Premier League titles and one Champions League, among 16 major trophies during his time at the club.

Silva captained City in his final season and played all 38 Premier League matches as they finished second, while also winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

He is set to represent Portugal at the 2026 World Cup, beginning with their opening Group K match against DR Congo on Wednesday evening.
