Iran intercepts U.S.-made weapons carried by Iraqi groups

In March 2024 Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced that it had intercepted a shipment of U.S.-made weapons—primarily small arms and ammunition—being smuggled through Iraq to militia groups allied with Tehran. The weapons, reportedly sourced from U.S. stockpiles in the Middle East, were seized at the Iran‑Iraq border, and Iran said the move was to prevent “foreign interference” and protect its security interests.
