Iran intercepts U.S.-made weapons carried by Iraqi groups

In March 2024 Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced that it had intercepted and seized a shipment of U.S.-made weapons that had been smuggled into Iraq and was intended for Iraqi militia groups allied with Tehran. The cache reportedly included small arms, ammunition and explosives, which Iranian forces claimed were being diverted to support anti‑U.S. factions in the region. The interception was presented as evidence of Iran’s effort to control arms flows and prevent weapons from falling into the hands of hostile militias. Views Nigeria
