Scotland Likely to Be Underdogs Against Morocco in the 2026 World Cup – Clarke

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke has said that a match against Morocco in the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be a very tough test for the national side.

With Scotland topping Group C, a draw with Morocco at Boston Stadium would virtually secure the first-ever appearance of the Scottish team in the knockout stages of a major tournament.

After a win over Haiti in their opening game, Clarke welcomed the underdog status against Morocco, noting that the Scottish mentality often suits such a role better.

‘I think this Moroccan side is every bit as good if not better and can certainly go on to become better. They’ll have aspirations to be in the last four again.

‘We give them a lot of respect. They are very talented, they are fantastic players. They have a good work ethic, they have power and pace. They have little bits of skill, they can open a game, they can create one‑v‑ones, they can beat you one‑v‑one.

‘For me, Morocco are the real deal, a top side. As I keep saying, we have to be at our very, very best to compete. I thought they were excellent first half against Brazil. Brazil showed a little bit of experience in the second half in that game to get back in.

‘We expect a difficult game from both and to try and separate them is difficult.’

‘Against difficult opponents, we have to be very good. We understand that. But sometimes the Scottish psyche and the Scottish mentality mean we are a little bit more comfortable when we are the underdogs.

‘We were the favourites against Haiti and we found the game a struggle, but we managed to win. This time we are the underdogs and sometimes Scotland prefer it that way.’
