Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olú of Lagos State congratulated Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti on his decisive win in Saturday’s governorship election.
Sanwo‑Olú said the result was a reward for good governance and effective service delivery. The statement was released Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Oyebanji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, the winner of the election in Ado‑Ekiti.
Sanwo‑Olú noted that Oyebanji’s victory in all 16 local government areas, with 83.54 percent of the votes cast, reflected the governor’s popularity and the confidence placed in him by the electorate.
He urged the new Ekiti governor to remain committed to delivering further dividends of democracy during his second term.
Sanwo‑Olú, who served on the APC National Campaign Council for the election, also praised President Bola Tinubu for his purposeful leadership and the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at transforming Nigeria’s socio‑economic development.
He commended APC leaders and members at the national, state, local government and ward levels for working together to secure the party’s victory.
“I congratulate my dear brother, Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, for emerging victorious in yesterday’s governorship election.”
“I also congratulate his running mate, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, on her re‑election.”
“Oyebanji’s victory in the governorship poll with 83.54 percent of the total votes cast is a reward for performance and outstanding delivery of the dividends of democracy to the people of Ekiti during his first term.”
“The result is a clear testament to the trust and confidence the people of Ekiti have in his administration and leadership,” Sanwo‑Olú said.
The governor also thanked the electorate for their support of the APC.
“I want to thank the good people of Ekiti for their unflinching support and continued belief in our great party, the APC. I want to assure you that the ruling party will not disappoint you. We will continue to work for the progress, development and prosperity of our people,” he added.
