Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has commented on the team’s 1‑1 draw with DR Congo in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup on Wednesday.
The 41‑year‑old was unable to add to his international goal tally, as Portugal lost the point against the Leopards.
During the 90 minutes he played in Houston, Ronaldo made two attempts that were not successful.
João Neves opened the scoring for Portugal, but Yohan Wissa headed in the equaliser before half‑time.
Ronaldo posted on social media: “It’s not the start we wanted but this is FAR from being over. Focus on the next game.”
Portugal’s next group match will be against Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
