The Nigerian Army announced that its forces, assisted by the Nigerian Air Force, have successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, the wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, who had been abducted by bandits with her husband several weeks earlier.

A statement signed by Major General Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information, indicated that the rescue followed intensified search‑and‑rescue operations carried out by troops of Operation Fansan Yamma.

According to the statement, sustained offensive operations and mounting pressure on the criminals led troops to engage the bandits at Tunga Village, resulting in Mrs. Abubakar’s successful recovery.

The statement added that during the encounter the bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing under the overwhelming pressure of the advancing troops.

The statement further noted that Mrs. Abubakar was immediately evacuated and is now receiving medical care at a military hospital, where she is responding to treatment.

The Armed Forces leadership affirmed its commitment to ensuring her full recovery and to providing all necessary support to her family during this difficult period.

It also stated that troops will continue ongoing operations to locate and neutralise the perpetrators, while intensifying efforts to rid affected communities of terrorists across Katsina and throughout the nation.
