Rehabilitation work on Lagos' Eko Bridge delayed.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Lagos State Sector Command has issued a revised schedule for the temporary shutdown of Eko Bridge to accommodate rehabilitation work on the UBA–Apongbon–Ijora corridor.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Lagos Sector Commander and Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat announced that the closure will now begin at 12:00 midnight on Tuesday, May 19, replacing the previously planned start date of May 11.

Hamzat explained that the change resulted from a strategic meeting between FRSC officials and the Federal Controller of Works, Mr Olufemi Dare, during which implementation details and public‑safety considerations were examined.

“I wish to inform the motoring public of the impending temporary closure of the Eko Bridge to facilitate rehabilitation works on the UBA–Apongbon–Ijora corridor,” he said.

“After due consideration of operational and public safety factors, the planned closure, which was earlier proposed to take effect at 12:00 midnight on Tuesday, May 11, has been rescheduled and will now commence on Tuesday, May 19, from 12:00 midnight.”

The FRSC urged drivers to use alternative routes such as UBA, Outer Marina, Third Mainland Bridge, Egbéta and other nearby corridors for the duration of the repairs.

Hamzat asked road users to remain patient, obey traffic regulations and follow diversion signs that will be installed around the affected areas.

He added that FRSC personnel, together with other traffic‑management agencies, will be strategically deployed on major routes to maintain order and ensure smooth traffic flow during the closure.

The sector commander also encouraged commuters to plan their journeys carefully, adhere to traffic directives and avoid reckless driving near diversion points.

He concluded by expressing appreciation for motorists’ cooperation as authorities continue efforts to improve road infrastructure and enhance transportation safety throughout Lagos State.
