POWA Provides Cash and Food to Widows in Jigawa on International Widows’ Day

The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) Jigawa State Command distributed financial aid and food supplies to widows as part of its 2026 International Widows’ Day observances.

The outreach event took place in Dutse on Wednesday and was carried out following a directive from POWA’s National President, Chief Mrs. Mutiat Olufunmilola Disu. It aimed to foster compassion, inclusion and social welfare among the police community’s vulnerable members.

During the ceremony, the Chairperson of POWA in Jigawa State—represented by the association’s Secretary, Hajiya Fatimah Ibrahim—emphasised the importance of supporting widows and acknowledging their resilience in the face of socio‑economic challenges.

She described International Widows’ Day as a moment for society to reflect on its collective duty toward widows through empathy, care and tangible assistance.

According to her, the association is committed to enhancing the welfare of widows and other vulnerable groups within the police community and beyond.

In the distribution, at least 20 widows received relief items such as spaghetti, groundnut oil and seasoning cubes, along with cash support of N30,000 each to help meet their daily needs.

The recipients thanked POWA for the timely and impactful aid, and offered prayers for the continued success of the association and its leadership.

POWA highlighted that the initiative reflects its broader dedication to humanitarian service and community engagement, urging individuals, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to keep extending support to widows and vulnerable persons throughout society.

The association reaffirmed its resolve to sustain programmes that promote social welfare and improve the living conditions of disadvantaged community members.
