Portugal manager Roberto Martínez has weighed in on his team’s friendly against Nigeria, which took place on Wednesday night.
Martínez said the match would serve as a useful preparation for Portugal’s World Cup opener against DR Congo on June 17.
He made the comments during a pre‑match press conference on Tuesday, speaking to reporters.
“We have an opportunity to work on aspects that are similar to what we’ll face against Congo,” Martínez told the media.
“It’s a different African side – Nigeria. It will be a demanding opponent and a test to prepare our squad.”
Portugal entered the fixture having beaten Chile 2‑1 in their previous friendly.
Nigeria had drawn 2‑2 with Poland a few days earlier.
