Police launch campaign to address common health issues among personnel

To enhance the welfare, health, and operational effectiveness of Nigeria Police Force personnel, Director of Force Medical Services AIG Nkechi Ifeoma Eze launched the “Know Your Number” campaign in the Kwara State Police Command.

The initiative seeks to address preventable medical conditions that can cause sudden collapse and death among police officers.

It also aligns with Inspector‑General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu’s welfare‑focused vision to cultivate a healthier, more resilient workforce able to fulfill its constitutional duties.

During a series of health sensitisation lectures to officers in the command, AIG Nkechi Ifeoma Eze warned about the risks of undetected hypertension, diabetes, prostate cancer, and other silent conditions.

She underscored that regular medical screening and early detection are essential to prevent avoidable complications and save lives.

The AIG said the “Know Your Number” campaign aims to encourage personnel to routinely monitor key health indicators, adopt preventive healthcare practices, and seek timely medical intervention when needed.

She added that good health is vital for personal well‑being and essential for effective policing and public service delivery.

As part of the programme, medical teams offered free health screenings to officers, measuring blood pressure, blood sugar, and other basic checks.

In his remarks, state Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi thanked the Inspector‑General of Police and the Director of Force Medical Services for bringing the initiative to the command.

He reiterated the command’s ongoing support for programmes that enhance the welfare, well‑being, and professional efficiency of police personnel, as stated by spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire‑Adeyemi in Ilorin on Tuesday.
