The Kano State Police Command has dismantled a suspected drug syndicate in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, arresting one suspect and seizing 879 parcels of suspected cannabis.
CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command’s spokesperson, made the announcement in Kano on Friday.
He said the operation took place on 13 May 2026 at about 6 pm, carried out by officers of the Dawakin Tofa Police Division after receiving reliable intelligence.
According to Kiyawa, the suspect—identified as Umaru, also known as Jalo—was apprehended while unloading 18 sacks of dried leaves, believed to be cannabis, into his home in Yan Shado Village.
“Upon examination, each sack contained parcels of dried leaves suspected to be *Cannabis sativa*, totalling 879 parcels,” he added.
Kiyawa noted that the raid followed orders from Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who has directed a statewide crackdown on drug dealers using public intelligence.
He also said the operation aligns with the policing strategy of Inspector‑General Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which emphasizes intelligence‑led and community‑based policing.
“The suspect is currently in custody undergoing investigation and will be charged to court upon completion,” Kiyawa said.
The Commissioner reiterated the command’s zero‑tolerance policy on drug trafficking, warning that illicit drugs fuel crimes such as thuggery and violence.
He urged residents to keep providing useful information to the police, assuring that informants’ identities would be protected.
