Police arrest two suspects in attack on PDP Secretariat in Bauchi

BAUCHI — The Bauchi State Police Command has detained two individuals linked to the assault on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat in Bauchi, an incident that caused property damage and disrupted political activities.

The arrests were carried out by officers from the ‘B’ Division, GRA Bauchi, after an event on May 24, 2026, during a political gathering associated with a governorship declaration organized by a PDP faction in the state.

In a statement released on Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib said the suspects are under investigation for criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace, and malicious damage.

He added that unidentified individuals stormed the PDP Secretariat on the Maiduguri Bypass while the party’s governorship primary election was underway, causing panic and interrupting proceedings.

According to the statement, the attackers defaced campaign banners belonging to a governorship aspirant and shattered the windscreens of several parked vehicles before escaping on motorcycles.

The police said intelligence‑led investigations led to the identification and arrest of the suspects, an event that drew widespread attention on social media.

The suspects are identified as Hamza Abdullahi, known as “Dawa,” from the area behind the Old Airport in Bauchi, and Abdul Malik Dahiru, known as “Black,” from the Doya area of the state capital.

They have been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for a discreet investigation and will be charged in court once the process is complete.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu warned against actions that could undermine public peace, particularly during political events.

He assured residents that the command remains committed to maintaining law and order and will not tolerate political violence, thuggery, or any form of criminality.

The police urged the public to stay calm, law‑abiding, and vigilant, and to report suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
