Police in Osun have detained several individuals suspected of belonging to secret cults that have been terrorising the state.
This information was released by the Police Spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Sunday.
Ojelabi said that a notorious cultist known as “small,” who had been terrorising the Iloro community in Ilesa town, was apprehended on Wednesday at about 6 p.m.
“He confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity,” Ojelabi added.
He also reported that the Anti‑Cultism Unit of the command, using intelligence, arrested suspected cultists in the Sasa Area of Osogbo at about 1 a.m. on Friday.
Ojelabi noted that efforts are still underway to locate and arrest other suspects who have fled.
The items recovered from the suspects included one axe, one live cartridge, one blue cap bearing the Eye Confraternity logo, and six additional caps.
All suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is complete.
Ojelabi said that Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan has urged parents and guardians to supervise their wards, discourage cultism, and encourage them to engage in productive activities.
