Plateau PDP Screens 131 Assembly Candidates and Three Senate Aspirants in 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has finished screening 131 candidates for the House of Assembly and three candidates for the Senate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tyem Gideon Nanden, chair of the screening committee, told reporters in Jos after the exercise was completed that the selected aspirants will take part in the party’s primary elections next Wednesday.

Nanden explained that most of the candidates were chosen through consensus arrangements, including the nominees for the state’s three senatorial districts.

The senatorial aspirants identified were Johnbuil Shekarau for Plateau South, Timothy Golu for Plateau Central, and Formson Godson Dalyop for Plateau North.

He added that all House of Assembly aspirants were selected by consensus, except for the Langtang North/Langtang South federal constituency seat, which remains contested.

In total, 131 aspirants are vying for the 24 seats in the Plateau State House of Assembly.

Nanden also revealed that five gubernatorial aspirants from the state are currently undergoing screening in Abuja.

The gubernatorial candidates are Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, Sarpya Danielo, Sunday Biggs, Alfred Dapal, and Alex Ladam.

Addressing rumours of factionalism within the PDP, Nanden dismissed such reports, asserting that the party remains united under National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu.

He also ruled out the possibility of a rival faction fielding candidates for the elections, stating that the PDP is recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
