The Plateau State Government has condemned an attack on the Kawel community in Mushere Chiefdom, Bokkos Local Government Area, which resulted in several fatalities and injuries.

In a statement released on Monday by Commissioner for Information and Communication Joyce Ramnap, the government called the assault “senseless” and offered condolences to the victims’ families.

Officials said the incident underscores the necessity of ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements that threaten peace and stability in the state.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has ordered security agencies to intensify operations in the affected area and to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible for the attack.

The governor also instructed emergency management and humanitarian agencies to support victims and affected families, including those receiving treatment in hospitals.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and to preventing criminal actors from undermining efforts to promote peace and development in Plateau.

It urged residents of Kawel, Mushere Chiefdom and other parts of the state to stay calm, cooperate with security forces, and provide credible information to aid investigations and operations.

The government warned against reprisals, stressing that justice would be served through lawful means.

It assured residents that it remains dedicated to maintaining peace, security and the rule of law throughout the state.
