The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, clarified that his motivation for running is not rooted in personal desperation for the presidency.
During an interview on the Nevon HQ podcast, hosted by journalist and media personality Rufai Oseni, the former governor of Anambra State explained that his political drive stems from a commitment to making Nigeria function more effectively for its citizens.
Obi emphasized that his focus lies on addressing the country’s challenges rather than seeking power for its own sake.
"I am not desperate to be president of Nigeria. I am desperate to see Nigeria work," Obi said.
He also expressed concern over the economic difficulties confronting many Nigerians, especially young people, noting that millions are struggling to secure sustainable livelihoods.
"I am desperate to see young people have a means of livelihood. I am desperate to see people stop stealing public money. I am desperate to see Nigeria work," he added.
