A senior figure of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has revealed the reaction he received after urging the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to collaborate with Atiku Abubakar.

Momodu said Obi declined his suggestion, asserting that he is more popular than Atiku.

Atiku was the running mate of former Anambra State governor Peter Obi in the 2019 election under the Peoples Democratic Party.

In 2023, Obi joined the Labour Party, contested the presidential election, and finished third behind Atiku of the PDP and President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.

In an interview with Symponi TV, Momodu explained: “Peter is the only politician who has visited my home in London, Ghana, and Lagos.”

“During one of the visits, I urged Peter to try working with Atiku and gave him many examples, such as how Mahama might never have become President of Ghana if he had not been Vice President to Attah Mills, because he came from a minority background, just as Jonathan did in Nigeria.”

“I also cited the United States, where, despite being older than Obama, Biden was able to return to the presidency by demonstrating his capabilities.”

“You have only served as a state governor, but Peter told me that he is more popular than Atiku, I swear to God. If you ask him, he will confirm it.”
