The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) announced the results of the Numan Local Government Area (LGA) election on Monday evening, declaring Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Zidon Nzanyopwa the winner.
Electoral officer Sani Ahmed reported that Nzanyopwa received 19,174 votes, while All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bio Alexander polled 5,676 votes and African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Nancy Nelson received 4,178 votes.
The Numan election, held on Monday morning and afternoon after being postponed from Saturday, June 13, took place after the other 20 LGAs had already voted. By Monday afternoon it was publicly known that the PDP had swept those polls.
ADSIEC chairman Mohammed Umar announced the overall results late Monday evening in Yola, confirming that the PDP won in all 21 LGAs and all 226 wards.
Consequently, every chairman and vice‑chairman of the 21 local government councils, as well as all councillors across the 226 wards, are PDP members.
Chairman Umar thanked Adamawa voters for exercising their voting rights peacefully.
Daily Post reports that Adamawa State, currently governed by an APC governor, will have PDP officials at the local government level, as the new leaders were endorsed as PDP candidates earlier in the year before Governor Ahmadu Fintiri defected from PDP to APC.
