Osun community: “Give us an electricity transformer and we’ll vote for you.”

In Oke Ayo Estate, Elere, a community in Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State, residents have declared that they will only vote for the political party that supplies the area with an electricity transformer before the upcoming governorship election.

The statement was made on Saturday during a monthly meeting in which delegates of the Accord party were present.

Chairman Afolabi Maxwell, speaking on behalf of the community, praised the administration of Ademola Adeleke for ensuring that the benefits of democracy reach the grassroots. He also expressed frustration that the community has been without a transformer for more than four years.

Maxwell recalled several unsuccessful attempts by former community leaders to secure a transformer through prominent individuals such as Chief Mrs Dupe Adeleke‑Sanni and Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, as well as federal lawmakers representing the area.

"I am saying this publicly for everyone to hear: residents of Oke Ayo Estate, Elere will vote for any political party that provides a fully installed transformer before the August 15 governorship election," he said.

Responding, Saheed Ajibola, the Chairman of the Accord in Elere, thanked residents for acknowledging Governor Adeleke’s efforts in the community. Ajibola assured them that their request would be forwarded to the governor and other relevant authorities, describing the electricity supply as a priority need.

He also expressed appreciation for the community’s support during the 2022 governorship election and urged continued backing for the governor’s re‑election campaign.

Earlier, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Nurein Raji‑Lawal, visited the community and promised to help secure a transformer before the election.
