After a group of All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Osun State resigned and are expected to join the Accord Party, APC leader Olatunbosun Oyintiloye said the defections would not harm the party’s structure or its chances in the upcoming August 15 governorship election.
The resignations followed the departure of several supporters of Senator Iyiola Omisore, who may now back Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re‑election bid, raising concerns about internal unity.
Oyintiloye released a statement in Osogbo on Sunday, describing the departures as a normal part of political life, especially during an election cycle.
He emphasized that the defections do not threaten the APC’s preparedness or resolve to regain control of the state.
“The APC in Osun is larger than any individual or group of individuals. Our party is built on a solid foundation that has endured for decades. We have a resilient structure, loyal membership, and an ever‑expanding support base across the state,” Oyintiloye said.
“Those who think the APC has been weakened by the exit of a few members are completely out of touch with the realities on the ground,” he added.
“The strength of our party resides in the people, and the people remain firmly with the APC,” he concluded.
