I feel bad not playing at 2026 World Cup – Osimhen

Victor Osimhen has publicly addressed Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, acknowledging the disappointment that has weighed heavily on him and his Super Eagles teammates.

The 2026 tournament, expanded to include 48 teams for the first time, began last week, bringing together nations from around the world.

Despite Africa being allocated nine automatic qualification spots and an additional playoff berth, Nigeria is notably absent from the competition.

The Super Eagles’ campaign ended after a second-place finish in their qualification group and a subsequent elimination by DR Congo in the continental playoffs.

As a result, Nigeria missed out on a second consecutive World Cup, extending a painful streak for one of Africa’s traditional football powerhouses.

During a recent social media livestream, Osimhen expressed his frustration over the missed opportunity.

“It’s bad, not just for me but for the rest of the guys,” Osimhen said. “We’ve missed out twice in a row. Sometimes life happens, so we just have to keep moving.”

Nigeria last appeared at the FIFA World Cup in 2018, meaning several current squad members, including Osimhen, have yet to experience football’s biggest stage.
