Onuh Selected as Labour Party Candidate for Benue South Senatorial District in 2027

Prince Samuel Onuh, former Chairman of Ogbadibo Local Government Area, has been selected as the Labour Party’s consensus candidate for Benue South Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.

The decision was confirmed during a peaceful voting exercise held on Saturday, with participants drawn from the nine local government areas that comprise Benue South. Party officials and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the process.

Party leaders said Onuh’s selection reflects unity and a determination to strengthen the Labour Party’s presence across Zone C ahead of the upcoming elections.

Results announced at the conclusion of the exercise showed that Onuh received 123,000 votes across the district, securing the party’s ticket.

Speaking shortly after his emergence in Otukpo, Onuh praised the exercise as peaceful, transparent and credible.

“I am deeply humbled by the confidence reposed in me by members of our great party across the nine local government areas of Benue South. This victory belongs to every party member who believes in the Labour Party’s vision for a better future,” he said.

He thanked the party faithful for their trust and pledged not to disappoint them if elected in 2027.

“I accept this responsibility with a deep sense of commitment. By the grace of God, I will not disappoint the people of Benue South. Together, we will build a stronger platform that will deliver effective representation, development and opportunities for our people,” Onuh added.

Williams Ochonu, Labour Party Chairman for Benue State, congratulated party members for their orderly conduct during the exercise.

Ochonu also congratulated all candidates who emerged through the party’s internal process and urged them to remain loyal to the Labour Party’s ideals.

“Today’s exercise has demonstrated the maturity, unity and strength of our party. I commend our members for conducting themselves peacefully and responsibly throughout the process,” he said.

He called on party members to return to their communities and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The real work begins now. We must return to the grassroots, engage our people and continue to build support across the state. If we remain united and focused, the Labour Party will record victories across the board in 2027,” Ochonu stated.

The state chairman expressed confidence that the party is well positioned to become a major force in Benue politics in the next general elections.
