Onigbongbo LCDA and Brampton Strengthen Partnerships in Innovation and Youth Development

Executive Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Moyosore Adebanjo, has intensified efforts to use international partnerships for grassroots development and better service delivery by working with His Worship Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton.

This initiative followed a strategic official visit to Brampton, Ontario, Canada, which resulted in the establishment of institutional ties between the two municipalities and opened new avenues for cooperation in innovation, environmental sustainability, youth development, economic growth, and governance exchange.

The visit, invited by Brown, brought a delegation from Onigbongbo that included Legislative Council leader Francis Nkwo Banwuzia and Council Manager Abiodun Osineye.

A key outcome was Brampton City’s pledge to collaborate with Onigbongbo LCDA on innovative recycling projects and knowledge‑sharing opportunities aimed at tackling waste‑management challenges in the council area.

The delegation also met officials of BHive Brampton, the city’s business innovation and startup incubation hub. Discussions focused on creating opportunities for young innovators and entrepreneurs from Onigbongbo LCDA to access mentorship, incubation programmes, and technology exchange initiatives.

BHive Programme Manager Yogananth Gopalakrishnan, together with Uche Okugo, Coordinator of Innovation and Technology, Economic Development, expressed a willingness to work with Onigbongbo LCDA to broaden access to innovation ecosystems for young creatives and emerging entrepreneurs.

In another significant meeting, the delegation spoke with Shafqat Ali, a senior Canadian government official, who expressed support for municipal‑level developmental initiatives and an interest in strengthening ties with Nigeria through future engagements.

Discussions explored opportunities for Onigbongbo LCDA to participate in Canadian‑backed initiatives focused on youth empowerment through Artificial Intelligence training and digital exchange programmes, medical intervention partnerships, and innovative recycling solutions that promote environmental sustainability.

The engagement highlights the growing importance of international cooperation in addressing local challenges and expanding opportunities for grassroots communities.

In a related discussion, Erica Henry‑Jackman, Manager of Investment Attraction and International Relations (A), Economic Development, City of Brampton, led talks on economic cooperation, investment opportunities, and business expansion support, with a particular focus on the development potential of Onigbongbo’s Cane Village and other local economic assets.

The visit also opened the door for legislative cooperation, as Brampton’s legislative arm indicated its readiness to host members of the Onigbongbo Legislative Council as part of an exchange programme designed to promote the sharing of best practices in lawmaking, local governance, and public administration.

Speaking on the outcome of the visit, Moyosore Adebanjo described the engagements as a strategic investment in the future of Onigbongbo LCDA.

“This visit was driven by a clear objective to build meaningful partnerships that deliver real value to our people. The relationships established and opportunities identified will contribute significantly to our vision of a more innovative, sustainable and prosperous Onigbongbo.”

The Chairman expressed appreciation to Mayor Patrick Brown, the City Council of Brampton, and all officials who facilitated the engagements, noting that the visit has laid a solid foundation for a mutually beneficial relationship between both municipalities.
