A new attack in the Sabon Gidan Kanar community of Gyel District, Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State, has resulted in one fatality and one serious injury, according to local sources.
The deceased was identified as Mr. Shedrack Dalyop, 36, of Kuru District. The injured victim is Mr. Mang Davou, 32, from Gyel District, who is currently receiving medical care.
Both victims were reportedly ambushed by unidentified assailants in Sabon Gidan Kanar on Sunday. The community has experienced several security incidents in recent weeks.
The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) confirmed the incident and condemned the attack, describing it as another troubling development amid the deteriorating security situation in the area.
In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Rwang Tengwong, the association noted that the attack occurred only days after a similar incident in the same community that also claimed a life and left another person hospitalized.
The group urged Operation Enduring Peace and other security agencies to conduct an immediate investigation, arrest those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice.
“BYM calls on Operation Enduring Peace and other security agencies to immediately investigate the attack, arrest the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice,” the statement read.
The association expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured victim. It also encouraged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law‑abiding while security agencies work to address the growing insecurity.
“The continued targeting and killing of innocent citizens must not be allowed to persist,” the statement added.
At the time of filing, security agencies had not released an official statement regarding the incident.
