Commissioner of Police for Lagos State Command, Mr. Fatai Tijani, reassured residents that a commercial area in Lagos remains safe after a bomb explosion suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which caused brief panic.

He delivered the reassurance on Monday, speaking to journalists at the incident site – the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin – following a thorough sweep by security operatives.

He said the police were alerted to an explosion and promptly dispatched Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams to cordon off and secure the area.

“We promptly deployed our EOD team after receiving reports of an explosion. The area was cordoned off and thoroughly searched,” he said.

He added that preliminary findings pointed to an IED that had been planted beneath a vehicle.

Tijani noted that the device was located under the passenger side of the vehicle and detonated when the engine was started.

“The IED was under the vehicle by the passenger side. It exploded when the vehicle was started,” he stated.

He reported that one person was injured in the incident and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
