Olamide Odunlade: I chose acting over a marriage‑bound relationship

Yoruba Nollywood actress Olamide Odunlade spoke about the tough decisions she has faced while chasing her acting career, admitting that she once prioritized her passion for acting over a relationship that might have led to marriage.

She revealed that her former fiancé’s mother presented an ultimatum, forcing her to choose between her son and her acting career, a choice that ultimately ended the relationship.

In an interview with Potpourri, Odunlade stated she had no hesitation in choosing acting, describing the profession as a lifelong passion she has nurtured since childhood.

“My ex-fiancé’s mum called me and asked me to choose between her son and my career, and I chose my career because I believe in myself and my craft. I chose acting because I have had passion for it right from childhood. I have always played lead roles in drama productions and I love acting a lot. It is my life,” she said.

She emphasized that while love is important, trust forms the foundation of any meaningful relationship, and she would not stay in a partnership where trust has been broken.

“Trust is very important to me when dating someone. If my partner can’t trust me, I am ending the relationship because issues of infidelity can affect one’s health. The same applies to me. If I can’t trust you, I will walk away. Love is one thing, trust is another. Without trust, love is meaningless,” she stated.

Odunlade also discussed romance and financial stability, stressing that while love is essential, it cannot replace the role money plays in sustaining everyday life.

“Money pays bills, not love. Money solves problems, not love. Love is beautiful and important, and we all need it in our lives, but without money, life becomes difficult,” she said.

When asked about the qualities she admires in men, the actress said she is drawn to men with a good sense of style, noting that neatness and smart dressing often catch her attention.

Over the years, Odunlade has appeared in numerous Nollywood productions and has also established herself as a producer, with titles such as Mojere, Omo Mala, Kosedurowo, and The First Tornado.

Despite the personal sacrifices that have accompanied her career journey, the actress remains devoted to her craft, affirming that acting remains her first love.
