Former Delta State Governor and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa was reportedly seen at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) Lagos Directorate 1 office on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi.
A senior source within the anti-graft agency said Okowa’s visit may be related to the ongoing investigation into alleged abuse of office and financial misconduct during his administration.
The former governor has been under EFCC scrutiny since leaving office over accusations that he diverted about N1.3 trillion from the 13 per cent derivation funds allocated to Delta State from the Federation Account between 2015 and 2023.
Okowa was initially arrested on 4 November 2024 and subsequently questioned at the commission’s Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate.
The source added that Okowa visited the Lagos office to seek the release of his international passport, which he needed to travel abroad for urgent medical treatment.
It was unclear at the time of this report whether the commission had approved the request or returned the travel document.
Attempts to obtain an official response from EFCC spokesperson Mr Dele Oyewale were unsuccessful, as calls to his telephone line went unanswered.
