The leadership crisis that had divided the Labour Party in Ogun State was settled on Monday, as the two factions agreed to present a single candidate for the 2027 election.
Party leaders said that internal conflict was counterproductive and that unity was necessary to protect Ogun State from political opportunists.
The announcement was made during a press conference held in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Apagun Olaolu Samuel, State Chairman of the Nenadi faction, explained that although the groups shared the same vision, a split house would not be effective.
Samuel emphasized that the merger aimed to select capable, work‑ready candidates rather than recycling politicians.
“We all agreed to work together as one party, one body, so that we can achieve what is possible,” he said. “We realised that we have the same vision of saving Nigeria and Ogun State from all political robbers. In order to succeed in 2027, a united front is essential, as the Bible says a divided kingdom cannot stand. We must stand together against the enemy and present a unified candidate for every elective position in Ogun State. One of the principal offices to be contested is the governorship, and today we present Mojisola Oluwaseun Ajayi as the choice for the 2027 Ogun gubernatorial election.”
“Our consensus candidate in Ogun State is a person of credibility, character, compassion, and a willingness to work, not a recycled politician – Hon Mojisola Oluwaseun Ajayi,” Samuel added.
Oluwabukunola Soyoye, chairman of the Abure faction, also spoke, noting that the party had become a single family working toward the 2027 success.
“Fighting ourselves in Ogun State is like siblings punching each other, and it is pointless. We have decided to unite as one big family in Labour, no more factions, just one body, to work together for the 2027 election.”
“With that, we have decided to bring our gubernatorial candidate and the other 39 elective seats into a consensus mode,” she said.
In her acceptance speech, the party’s candidate, Mojisola Ajayi, thanked all party faithful and pledged to collaborate with them to secure victory in 2027.
