ABUJA: The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has finished a two‑week Intensive Pistol Management Training Course that involved 106 personnel. The exercise underscored the Corps’ focus on manpower development, professionalism, discipline, and high‑quality service delivery.
The training was held at the FCT Command Training and Obstacle Crossing Grounds, located at the Command Headquarters in Abuja. It aimed to sharpen officers’ firearm handling skills and reinforce strict adherence to operational efficiency while safeguarding critical national assets, infrastructure, lives, and property.
Command spokesperson DSC Monica Ojobi relayed the message on Monday in Abuja. She said that FCT Commandant Dr Olusola Odumosu stressed zero tolerance for negligence with firearms, warning that accidental discharge would not be treated lightly.
“In the NSCDC, we do not condone accidental discharge. It is the height of professional misconduct and we do not take it lightly. You must be accountable and ensure professionalism at all times,” Odumosu declared.
The Commandant also urged officers to remain diligent in their interactions with the public, calling for restraint and respect in every operational engagement.
“The public is not our enemy; you must observe the rules of engagement, act with restraint, and remember that you are deployed to protect lives and infrastructure, not to intimidate citizens,” he added.
Odumosu thanked the Commandant General for approving the training, noting that continuous capacity building is central to the Corps’ mandate of safeguarding critical national assets and ensuring public safety. He charged participants to be resilient, maintain discipline in carrying out their duties, and continually place the interests of the Corps and the nation above personal interests.
During the course, participants were drilled on weapon safety, marksmanship, tactical handling, and the ethical use of force, in line with global best practices and the NSCDC Standard Operating Procedure.
