Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo’s death is a major loss for Abia and the entertainment industry.

The Abia Governor, Alex Otti, expressed condolences to the family of the late Nollywood actor Alex Ikenna Ekubo Okwaraeke.

Speaking on Thursday in Arochukwu, Abia State, during a funeral service held by the Streams of Joy Church, Governor Otti described Ekubo’s passing as a profound loss for both Abia State and the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba, the governor noted that the actor was not only a celebrated entertainer but also a cultural ambassador whose talent showcased Abia State and the nation on the global stage.

He praised Ekubo for carrying his roots with pride and for demonstrating through hard work and discipline that dreams can be achieved regardless of one’s background. The governor added that the actor’s journey from Arochukwu to becoming a household name across Africa and beyond continues to inspire young people.

“Alex possessed that rare gift of connecting with people. Through his performances, he brought joy to homes, inspired young people, and demonstrated that with discipline, dedication, and excellence,” Governor Otti said.

He urged the deceased’s wife, the Ekubo‑Okwaraeke family, the people of Arochukwu, and the Nigerian creative industry to remain strong, courageous, and to find solace in God.

Late Dr. Alex Ikenna Ekubo Okwaraeke, aged 40, was a renowned Nollywood actor who died from complications of advanced metastatic kidney cancer. He is survived by his wife, parents, siblings, and numerous relatives.

The burial was attended by actors, actresses, and other entertainers.
