In the midst of a chaotic environment where Nigerians—including children, teachers, men, and women—are held captive, drumbeats begin to rise in an attempt to coax them into dancing. These drums are played by a group described as “diabolical drummers” who have allegedly mastered deception.
In 2023, Nigeria faced a pivotal moment. Eight years after the All Progressives Congress (APC) had ignited hope among Nigerians, a disastrous outcome left many on the brink of despair.
The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has been characterized by some as an unmitigated disaster, yet the APC has urged Nigerians to place their trust in the party again. Despite criticism, many Nigerians continued to support the APC, a decision that required intervention by the Supreme Court to resolve the ensuing controversy.
Over the past three years, the APC has been accused of producing little tangible progress. Critics claim that party officials have mixed “cocktails” of lies, deflection, and avoidance to address the country’s challenges.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, the APC is said to be deploying its “diabolical drummers” to amplify noise and drown out meaningful discussion.
Among the allegations is that sustainable development takes an eternity, that Nigeria’s problems are too complex to solve easily, and that only current officeholders can fix the country. These claims are presented as lies that Nigerians should reject to avoid making the wrong choice again.
Proponents argue that Nigeria can progress if it is guided systematically, though this will not be easy because many institutions remain under current control. They say it will require sacrifice.
They emphasize that, as a democracy, change must begin at the ballot box. The first step is to eliminate voter apathy. Every Nigerian of voting age should obtain a voter card and commit to exercising their franchise on election day.
It is common for Nigerians to say they will not vote because they believe their votes will not count. Critics warn that refusing, failing, or neglecting to vote would be a grave mistake. While votes are counted, vigilance is also crucial. Nigerians are urged to vote and remain vigilant throughout the process.
Finally, the article questions agency and responsibility. Politicians who manipulate Nigerians to maintain power are said to draw from among those who are gullible or greedy, willing to do anything for a small reward. The piece calls on this group to curb their greed if Nigeria is to progress.
