Nigerian Government Agencies Operate as a Cybersecurity and Data Protection Ecosystem – Adeyanju

The managing director of the federal government’s Galaxy Backbone agency, Ibrahim Adeyanju, explained that the organization is collaborating with the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Nigerian Communications Commission, and other entities to address cyber threats and ensure national protection.

Adeyanju made the comments during a briefing with journalists on Monday.

He emphasized that Galaxy Backbone, together with other government bodies, remains committed to maintaining a secure digital environment for both government operations and the Nigerian public.

“We work with the police force; we also have a cybersecurity unit domiciled with the Office of the National Security Adviser. We work with our sister agencies, the National Information Technology Development Agency and the Nigerian Communications Commission. We work together in an ecosystem to ensure that government data is protected and information is shared securely,” he said.

According to Adeyanju, the agency sits at the core of the government’s digital transformation agenda, given its mandate to drive digitalisation across public institutions.

He noted that cyberattacks have continued to affect some Nigerian government agencies because those agencies only provide third‑level technical support to ministries, departments and agencies.
