The Nigerian Navy has announced another operational success under Operation Delta Sentinel, recovering 92,660 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, that was hidden along the corridor on the Rivers–Bayelsa border.
A statement from Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, Director of Naval Information, said that, based on reliable intelligence, personnel from the naval vessel NNS SOROH were dispatched to the Okolomade Community in the Abua‑Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.
There, aerial surveillance followed by ground searches uncovered about 138 sacks of suspected illegally refined AGO concealed beneath vegetation and at various points along nearby waterways.
The statement added, “This operation highlights the growing use of hidden creek‑side storage sites by criminal groups involved in the illegal petroleum trade.”
“The recovered products were handled in accordance with existing regulations, effectively preventing economic saboteurs from accessing resources that could support their illicit activities,” the Navy added.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence‑driven operations aimed at disrupting crude oil theft and illegal petroleum distribution networks across the Niger Delta.
