NDC takes institutionalisation steps at NEC meeting

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a series of internal reforms aimed at bolstering party discipline, accountability, and long‑term institutional stability following decisions made at its second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

In a statement released by National Publicity Secretary Osa Director, the party said the resolutions were part of a broader effort to entrench party supremacy and create a structured political institution.

The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all programmes, policies, and appointments made by governments elected on its platform—excluding personal staff—are carried out in consultation with party structures.

It emphasized that elected officials must align their actions with the party’s collective decisions, describing party supremacy as central to its ideology and operations.

Among the resolutions, the NEC directed that all affiliated groups and non‑governmental organisations operating under the party’s influence must function strictly under party guidance and not act independently of its structure.

The party also announced plans to develop a comprehensive Code of Conduct for officials and candidates. A committee led by the National Legal Adviser has been formed to draft the framework and implementation guidelines.

Additionally, the NEC approved the establishment of a National Reconciliation Committee to address grievances among members and promote internal unity.

The NDC stressed that it is being built as an enduring institution rather than a personality‑driven movement, urging members to remain committed to its long‑term vision.

On financial accountability, the NEC resolved that party funds must be managed strictly for official purposes, with mandatory transparency in all financial dealings involving party officials.

It also directed that all campaign‑related funds be fully declared and processed through designated party accounts at all levels, including local government, state, zonal and national structures.

The party said the reforms aim to strengthen internal cohesion, improve transparency, and prepare the platform for future political engagements.
