Navy Base Oguta Launches Free Medical and Educational Outreach in Imo Community

As part of its 70th‑anniversary celebrations, Naval Base Oguta began a free medical and educational outreach program for residents of Izombe community in Imo State on Thursday.

More than 500 community members received medical care, while hundreds of students were supplied with educational materials.

The medical outreach, held at Izombe Commercial Secondary School, served students, youths, and elderly men and women who are part of the host community for Naval Base Oguta.

During the event, naval medical personnel delivered a health‑sensitization lecture on drug abuse to students and discussed hypertension management for pregnant women and the elderly. Free medications were then distributed to beneficiaries.

Commander of Nigerian Navy Base Oguta, Commodore S. T. Lengaya, who led the medical team, said the initiative was intended to strengthen civil‑military relations.

“The significance of this outreach is part of the Nigerian Navy’s effort to deepen civil‑military relationships, especially with host communities, as part of the military’s non‑kinetic approaches to improving security across the nation,” he said.

One beneficiary, Madam Nnena Maduabuchi, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Navy and prayed that God continue to protect the base personnel.

“I was treated and given drugs for hypertension and I am grateful for that. I now see the Navy as friends, unlike the fear I used to have whenever I see any of them,” she added.
