The naira continued to weaken against the dollar in both the official and parallel foreign exchange markets, ending the week on a negative note.
Central Bank of Nigeria data show that on Friday the naira fell to N1,371.04 per dollar, a decline from N1,370.89 the day before.
Thus, the official market recorded a daily depreciation of N0.15 per dollar.
In the parallel market, the naira dropped more sharply to N1,415 per dollar on Friday, compared with N1,395 per dollar on Thursday and over the preceding four days.
This decline occurs even as the country’s foreign reserves increased for three consecutive days, reaching $48.51 billion as of May 13, 2026, according to the apex bank.
On Thursday, the naira also weakened against the dollar in the official market.
Throughout the week, the naira experienced a mix of gains and losses against foreign currencies.
