Says manufacturer in compliance with food safety regulations
By Chioma Obinna
On Sunday, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) announced the results of its probe into the disputed two‑month shelf‑life claim for BON Bread, exonerating Food & Food Integrated Company Limited, the maker, of any misconduct after viral social‑media posts suggested the bread stayed fresh for more than two months without spoiling.
The issue began when an online blogger claimed on 13 April 2026 that a loaf of bread she had received for sale had remained unspoiled for over two months, sparking worries about potentially harmful preservatives.
While the blogger did not name a brand at first, Food & Food Integrated Company Limited later confirmed that the bread in question was its BON Bread line and denied any fault.
In response to the public backlash, NAFDAC announced it had launched an investigation to verify the scientific facts behind the claim
