Munoz Joins Liverpool In £34.5m Deal After Reds See Off Real Madrid, Man United

Victor Munoz has agreed a £34.5 million transfer to Liverpool after the Premier League club outbid Real Madrid, Manchester United and Newcastle United for the 22‑year‑old Osasuna winger.

Munoz, who is 22, completed his medical on Wednesday and will sign a six‑year contract, becoming the first acquisition of new manager Andoni Iraola.

In addition to surpassing Newcastle, Liverpool Echo reported that the Reds also turned down offers from Real Madrid, Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen for the Spain international.

Barcelona had shown interest in Munoz before signing England international Anthony Gordon, but Real Madrid’s match‑price clause in their deal with Osasuna eliminated the Spanish giants from the race.

Iraola Focused on Signing Munoz

Liverpool activated Munoz’s release clause, with 50 % of the fee owed to Real Madrid, who sold the player last summer. Reports say Iraola was a key influence in the move.

Following early talks between Iraola and Liverpool’s recruitment staff, the 20‑time champions intensified their long‑standing interest in Munoz, with the new manager reportedly eager to secure the former Real Madrid prospect.

Munoz is currently a member of Spain’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad. He scored seven goals and provided five assists in 36 appearances, helping Osasuna avoid relegation on the final day of the 2025/26 La Liga season.

Liverpool will pay the fee in two instalments.

The versatile Munoz will add depth to a front line that lost Mohamed Salah at the end of the season and will be missing Hugo Ekitike for the foreseeable future due to a damaged Achilles tendon.

Liverpool Aims to Add More Signings

Liverpool has considered further attacking additions because of the severity of Ekitike’s injury, but Munoz’s arrival is not expected to affect the club’s ongoing pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.

Leipzig is reluctant to part with the 19‑year‑old Ivory Coast international, who has been linked to a possible €100 million (£86.5 million) transfer. Paris Saint‑Germain, the European champions, are also interested in Diomande.
